Your skin is a window to your inner health

Updated: Nov 12, 2021

You skin is the largest organ of the body and it has many ways of signalling it's distress; dryness, breakouts, itchiness, excessive oil production, sensitivity, slowness to heal. These are usually an indication of some deeper imbalance or undernourishment in the body.

We often see skin breakouts when we are stressed, dark rings under our eyes when we are low in iron, dryness when are lacking in essential fatty acids and spots when our hormones are out of balance.

The best thing we can do to improve the condition of our skin is to think about what we are eating. Start with a good food based multivitamin and some general 'healthy eating' adjustments to your diet to increase the amount of collagen, healthy fats, selenium, zinc and naturally occurring vitamins in your diet. (greens, oily fish, seeds, brazil nuts, avocados, coconut oil, bone broth, berries, green apples etc). Those 'special ingredients' in magic skin serums... Co Enzyme Q10, Zinc, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic acid, AHA, retinol... can all be found in food and if you eat them rather than apply them externally, they build cells all over your body, not just in the upper layers of the skin.

Sometimes, the problem lies deeper, in which case a consultation with a naturopath can help uncover the underlying issues, support with remedies and herbs.
